Today is March 25th, the Next Generation Initiative’s 10th anniversary. For us, it means that we’ve spent the past ten years working to connect young Greek Americans with career advisors and mentors, and career-advancing opportunities like internships and scholarships.
In today’s world, the chance to connect with an incredible mentor or an amazing internship can change everything for a student. You can help make that happen for someone like you — with a special Greek Independence Day contribution to the next generation.
We’re in touch every day with dozens of Greek American students looking to launch their careers — and hoping there is someone out there who shares their background, understands their needs — and is on their side.
Which is why we chose to launch our programs on Greek Independence Day, in order to send an important message: we only have one agenda — helping our students.
Why is this so important?
Well, it means that, as an independent educational foundation, we don’t have some group lurking in the background funding us — or telling us what kind of students to help, or what particular partisan line to promote.
We also don’t charge any fees to our students — and we don’t require their parents to join a group, or pay anyone membership fees (we don’t have any).
1. We’ve been free to develop innovative programs that focus exclusively on what today’s young men and women actually need.
2. We rely on small donations from private individuals like you, to keep our programs open and free to all young Greek and Cypriot American students.
That’s why we’re asking you to join us today and send a message of support, with a special Greek Independence Day donation today to the Next Generation Initiative.
Whether you can give $5 or $50, your support means that we can stay independent, and keep helping thousands of students, from every part of our community.
With help from good friends and Greek Americans like you over the past ten years, we’ve connected thousands of students from our community with opportunities to develop their careers and leadership skills.
From our pioneering internship, fellowship and Master Class programs, to our exciting new Archimedes Award scholarship, we are helping young men and women all across our community get a chance to get their foot in the door — and get started in the careers that will shape their lives, and sustain our community’s future.
We’re asking you to join us today, because we’re convinced that this is the single most important thing we can do to help the next generation.
We hope to go even further in the next ten years, but right now, we hope you will join us today — and help give a boost to the next generation on Greek Independence Day.
Today, we want to thank everyone who has helped us connect thousands of young Greek Americans with mentors, internships and scholarships, to help them get going in life, get ahead in their careers, and get their own chance to give back. We would never have been able to do any of it without your support!
And we want to thank all the great Master Class leaders, mentors and advisors who’ve given their time and their talents to help the next generation. We all learned to “pay it forward” from some great role models — hard-working mothers, fathers and mentors who gave their all, so we could go further.
On this Independence Day, we pause to remember where we came from — and renew our determination to live up to the examples of those who came before us.
From all of us at the Next Generation Initiative on this Greek Independence Day, thank you!
