Every year, outstanding undergraduate and graduate students of Hellenic heritage are nominated by professors at universities across the U.S. as candidates for the Athens Fellowship — the premiere international leadership program for university students which focuses on Greece.
The Athens Fellowship offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate students of Hellenic heritage who are studying government, political science, international relations, economics, business, journalism and related fields, a chance to see for themselves a changing Greece — and learn how leaders work at the highest levels of government and business — while experiencing the challenges many leaders face during long days of intensive, fast-paced briefings on a constantly changing array of issues with global implications.
The first of its kind, this exciting and innovative program has attracted outstanding students from leading universities and colleges from across the United States since 2007. Previous Athens Fellows include students from Brown, Carnegie-Mellon, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Northwestern, Princeton, Vanderbiltand Yale Universities, Boston College, Dartmouth, Dickinson, Miami of Ohio, Occidental and the Universities of Chicago, Florida, and Pennsylvania as well as students from Arizona State, George Washington University, Hollins, James Madison, New York University, MIT, Stanford, Texas Christian, UCLA, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Virginia.
The Athens Fellowship is a program of the Next Generation Initiative, an independent, non-profit educational foundation committed to helping today’s students become tomorrow’s leaders. The Athens Fellowship is part of the Next Generation Initiative’s Birthright Greece Initiative, promoting and supporting an alliance of high-quality study programs that bring next generation students to Greece, such as the Reinventing Greece Media Project, AHEPA’s Journey to Greece and the American Hellenic Institute Foundation’s Foreign Policy Trip to Greece and Cyprus.
